Gili Trawangan has always had the stigma for being the ‘Party Island’ of the three Gilis and there are numerous restaurants and bars open until 2pm along the main strip and the beach, however most kitchens close around 11pm.

There are regular party nights with DJ’s spinning the latest hip hop, dance and house hits, they are rotated so there is only one party a night which can stay open until 4am.

Currently the schedule is Monday night for the famous Blue Marlin rave party, Wednesday nights at the beachfront ‘Shipwrecked Bar’ is the ‘Tir na Nog’ Irish bar party, with a mix of funky house music, Friday night is at Rudys Bar, & Reggae music most nights at Sama Sama bar.

This is a selection of my personal favorites,

Nightmarket @ the Art Market
A great place to sample local foods. With maybe 50 stalls selling cheap and tasty local foods prepared freshly in front of you. Try the Nasi Campur, many kinds of satay (Fish or meat on a skewer in a delicious sauce) served with rice. Or perhaps a charcoal grilled whole fish. Very cheap and tasty food for less than $3 to $5.

Blue Marlin Café
A varied international menu during the day and maybe the best grilled sea fish on the island in the evenings, try the salads or grilled trevaly in garlic with one of their fresh juices.

Gili Cafe
Now serving a variety of  illy coffees, delicious home made cakes and freshly filled baguettes. Have to try the chocolate brownies or blueberry pie with a cappuccino.

A touch of pure funk has arrived in the form of Horizontal Bar and Lounge and the H rooms accommodation behind, with music overlooking the red cushion covered beach. Try the mojitos, Gili island cocktails, Tapas and mixed Asian fusion cuisine.

A laid back Balinese restaurant with your own draped baruga to eat in, serves good Indonesian and Western favorites. Try the chicken cordonbleu with vegetables.

Karma Kayak

Their Tapas restaurant offers a great mix of fresh Spanish Tapas and other small fusion bites, sandwiches, milk shakes and much more. Try the Sangrias at sunset. Where you can also have your own private beach BBQ where you cook the food yourself.
A great place to spend some hours watching the sunset over Bali’s volcano Mount Agung.

Kayangan Restaurant

Tucked away this overlooked local warung has all the popular Indonesian favorites.
Try the tempe goreng with morning glory, mie goreng or the cap cay.

Manta Café

Good reasonably priced international foods in a relaxed atmosphere. Go and chill out in one of the hammocks or barugas, or jump in the Manta pool to cool off.
Try the wraps and the yellow sauce curries.

Pesona Indian Restaurant

Truly unique, hookah pipes on the Thai styled cushioned beach front or eat at the retauarant around the pool, with flavored Indian tobaccos, and amazing dishes from all parts of India.

Ryoshi Japanese Restaurant

A must try if you are a Sushi or Teriyaki fan, their fish is flown in regularly on ice to ensure freshness and quality. Try the Naso miso soup, chicken teriyaki and tuna carpaccio.
Unfortunately they do not stock Saki, one of my personal favourite drinks. So don’t get your hopes up and check the display counter before ordering sushi that should be fresh on the day!

Food from northern Spain’s Basque region made with fresh organic locally sourced ingredients. The Pan seared coral trout w manchego salad and the signature dish such as tempura sardines drizzled with an apple sauce. Mmmm.Yummy Totally reasonably priced and a must try on your visit to Trawangan. Be scallywagged.

The Beach House
Beachfront bar and restaurant serving hearty breakfasts, gourmet specials and fresh seafood. With fine wines and some of the tastiest food on the island. Try the lobster or the steak.
[click for Menu].

Tir Na Nog
Irish bar
Very popular with everyone. The Irish ‘Shipwrecked Bar’ and restaurant is maybe the hub of the strip. Full on BBQ, beef and Guinness pies with mash and gravy, good pizza’s, and try the famous ‘Irish fry’ all day breakfast or the braised duck.

Villa Ombak
Great for special occasions or a romantic dinner the chef will have your mouth watering in no time. Try the Seafood wrap starter followed by the chicken tikka masala.

The start of Seminyak coming to the Gilis, Trattoria is a well known and popular restaurant from “Eat street” (Jl. Oberoi, Seminyak). Italian food prepared in a semi open kitchen, Pizzas, pastas, and all the usual typical Italian dishes. From a smaller menu offering a selection from the best of the Seminyak expats usual choice.

Ko Ko Mo
Gili Trawangan’s only fine dining restaurant, under the guidance of well-known Sydney chef and restauranteur, Matthew Blundell. Enjoy a delectable feast of Freshly-shucked Oysters, Beef Carpaccio, Peking Duck, Medallions of Bamboo Lobster. For dessert, choose from tempting creations including Strawberry Dacquoise or our decadent Fallen Chocolate Cake. All whilst relaxing to the mellow sounds of the piano on the beach.

Full Moon Partys

When the islands are busy there are Full Moon Parties on the southern part of Trawangan. Located not far from the main strip on an enclosed beach area. Hosted by the local people using the surf watch tower as a bar and a mixture of DJ’s playing hard house, trance and techno until sunrise.

Monthly full moon and Black Moon psychedelic parties are held at the Space bar on Gili Air island. Under the stars right on on the beach…..!!!
