There are now many PADI and SSI dive centres on the three Gili Islands offering PADI, SSI, Technical diving, even Freediving (Apnea diving) and much much more.

It is abundant with Green sea Turtles and Olive Ridley Turtles and now has 63 Artificial reef regeneraton programs called BioRock structures in a multitude of shapes and sizes, including a Starfish, Manta Ray, tunnels, domes, there is even an aeroplane.

If you want to learn more this amazing technology their is even a PADI speciality course which you can take at any dive centre to teach you how it works and how to maintain it.

Gili Island Divers Association is compromised of now 16 Gili Trawangan based dive centres and is the organisation in the Lombok region who set a price agreement alongside the Gili Eco Trust. All dive centres are either SSi, PADI or both, instructors can teach SSI courses from beginner to Instructor level as well as PADI courses.

There are more good dive centres based on Trawangan, Meno, and Gili Air and insist on the best tuition possible to make sure their Instructors are highly qualified and all are dual qualified SSI and PADI Instructors.

Usually owned and run by a highly skilled team of westerners and Indonesians, they also speak Swedish, French, Dutch, Italian and German and have teaching materials in many more languages, so learning in different languages is not a problem if you want to dive the Gilis.

They all offer all diving courses from the total beginner through to Divemaster and Instructor level and for those who are already certified, fun dives are run daily.

GILI DIVERS ASSOCIATION DIVE COURSES AND FUN DIVE INFORMATION -

INTRODUCTORY DIVES - Rp. 590,000

Discover Diving with a trial dive, gives you a chance to experience diving without completing a course. This involves an dual qualified SSI and PADI Instructor taking you in the pool, teaching you a few basic skills and then taking you on a dive no deeper than 12m. The dual qualified SSI and PADI Instructors in this case are responsible for looking after all your equipment and buoyancy.

On completion of this trial dive you do not receive a certification, you do however receive a certificate from the organisation you chose which entitles you to go diving again, to a maximum of 12m for up to one year, accompanied by either an instructor
or a dive master. Or you can use the Pool and Dive sessions you have completed is the first section of the Open Water course, so you may choose to continue on and become an Open Water Certified Diver.

EXTRA INTRODUCTORY DIVES - Rp. 440,000

SCUBA DIVER - Rp. 2,450,000

A two day course, essentially half of the full Open Water Diver course.

The first day is spent on theory and pool work covering a wider range of skills than on the Try Dive. On the second day your dual qualified SSI or PADI Instructor takes you on two training dives from one of the dive boats where you have your first encounters with the fascinating array of marine life around the Gilis, which will addict you instantly.

After this course you will be permanently certified to dive to a maximum depth of 12 meters but only when accompanied by a certified dive master, assistant instructor or instructor. In addition, you'll probably be sorely tempted to complete a further day or two and complete the Open Water Diver Course.

OPEN WATER COURSE - Rp. 3,400,000 *

For those wishing to learn to obtain the Open Water course it takes 3 or 4 days and is comprised of pool work, theory and diving! The theory is based on reading a book and watching some videos so you can easily visualise what you are learning.

All skills are learnt in the comfort of our own pool, so by the time you make your first dive you will be very familiar with the equipment, how it works and how to control your buoyancy in the water.

During the course there are 4 dives. Two dives to 12m and two dives to 18m. During
the course there are also a few quizzes and a final exam. Once all of this is completed you will then be permanently certified to dive to 18m.

THE ADVANCED COURSE - Rp. 2,700,000 *

If you would like to continue with your diving education then the Advanced course will take you 2-3 days and involves five dives. During this course you will be introduced to different diving techniques and on completion you will be certified to dive to 30m.

Two dives are compulsory (deep and navigation) and the other three are elective, although we do recommend the Night dive, the Nitrox Introduction Dive, the Diver Propulsion Vehicle dive, Multi Level dive and the Naturalist dive, as they are perfect
for our surrounding dive sites. It is a practical course with only a little reading and
there are no quizzes and exams during this course!

RESCUE AND DIVING FIRST AID COURSE - Rp. 4,400,000 *

These courses come after the Advanced Course. The Rescue Course, together with the E diving first aid course takes 4 days. The course teaches you how to deal with a variety of problems that may be encountered whilst diving. Beginning with diver distress and exhaustion, then leading up to missing diver searches and unresponsive victims.

The Diving first aid course is completed prior to the Rescue course. It is a short course that looks at first aid procedures in a non diving situation and a diving situation. It combines CPR and First Aid into a single course, teaching you the same emergency protocols used by paramedics and doctors.

SCUBA TUNE UP - Rp. 590,000

If you have not dived in a while and would like to refresh your skills, participate in a Scuba Tune Up course. This involves both theory and practical elements. You will be given a short book which recaps the main theory points from your Open water course, and then you will be taken into the pool to practise all the skills you learnt under the supervision of an dual qualified SSI or PADI Instructor or Divemaster. This tune up also includes a dive once the theory and pool work is completed.

FUN DIVES - Rp. 370,000 *

For customers who are already certified we take out between 2-4 fun dives a day, with night dives on request. Time is varied according to the tides and conditions however usually they leave at 9am, 11:30am, 2:30pm and 6:30pm.

The Gili islands are fringed by coral reef and support a massive array of Marine life. There is a variety of dive sites around the three islands all within 20 min boat ride, offering walls, slopes, canyons and muck diving for all levels of diver.

Apart from the thousands of species of fish you can also see…. Reef Sharks, Turtles, Sting rays, Lionfish, Moray Eels, Cuttlefish, Octopus, Scorpion Fish, Sea Snakes, Bump Head parrot Fish and the occasional Manta Ray .

The diving is year round with visibility usually around 20m+ and the water temperature averaging 27 degrees Celsius.

Their team of friendly dive guides have logged thousands of dives around the Gilis and their experience and local knowledge means you see the best the Gilis have to offer.

Having trained thousands of student divers at Manta Dive they believe that the best way to become a really good Dive Master is to experience how a dive centre operates on a day-to-day basis.  Of course you still have to read the books, take the exams and practice the exercises, but by actually helping the instructors and dive guides with real students and qualified divers you will gain experience and pick up a wealth of knowledge that you cannot learn from any manual.

Concerns about conserving the Gili Island’s dive sites have led to the creation of the Gili Eco Trust. All dive centers operating in the Gili islands have a fixed price agreement and have agreed to charge a one - time Rp50,000 ‘reef tax’ to every diver.

This money is then used to pay for beach cleaning, recycling and conservation of the reefs, including the 63 artificial reef regeneration BIO ROCK projectsaround the islands.

DIVING IN BALI & LOMBOK

We advise if you only wish to do a 1 day 2 dive trip the USAT Liberty shipwreck
and the 50m deep wall covered in pristine corals and rare species of marine life is a must. It is famous for being the most shallow wreck dive suitable for peoplel with no experience at all, up to professional photographers.

We can even arrange snorkelling trips as the depth is only 3m on the house reef,
4 m on the top of the wall, and the wreck starts at 5m to 29m.

Another great dive trip is to Manta point and the Mola Mola dive (Sunfish) some
